Wherever the place is, let me draw it for you so you can have it to hang on your wall. This would also be a nice and thoughtful gift for someone who has just sold their house or purchased their new home. A hidden gem found in Seddon. I only visited this place twice , but both times I had a very pleasant experience and meal. This place reminds me of those cafes in a American sitcoms. The friendly owner is always behind the counter and in a deep conversation with some regulars.

Unfortunately, after 20 years, this Cafe is going to close its doors at the end of the month 🙁 so do go and visit if you can , I promise the coffee and the food are amazing. I had the best pizza slice when I was there. 🥰

Ps. @alfami.cafe is opposite Master Dry Cleaners in Seddon, which offered to do dry cleaning of quilts and adults jackets for free for Reaching Out Inner West, the local organisation that does food drive every Monday night at Footscray Market. So if you have quilt and jackets to donate, drop them off at the dry cleaners and then have coffee/ meal here. Two birds one stone and all that 😜

A couple years ago, I heard the term Eosinophilic

A couple years ago, I heard the term Eosinophilic Esophagitis for the first time. A friend's 7 years old was diagnosed with it, along with other health conditions. In a layman's term, it means he is allergic to almost eveything. The little brave boy had to go through three months of elemental diet ( eating nothing but meal in liquid forms) . After that, he was only able to be introduced one type of food at a time. So this mum has to come up with dozens of ways to cook one particular item...

Imagine feeding your kid apple pancakes with apple sauce with a side of apple chips and apple fruit leather as desserts? ( and all these were made from scratch btw) Or trying to come up with a meal with only chick pea pasta, with chickpeas flour, and chickpeas from cans or dry chickpeas. You get the the picture. 😵‍💫🤯 AND you do this day and day out for weeks...only to find out that turns out those food were triggers and you have to eliminate them and your child has to go back to liquid diet 😰😭 and then you start all over again with a different food item.

Imagine doing this everyday without a break. because it's not as if you can outsource this. When we don't feel like cooking, we have unlimited options of what to feed our family. My friend doesn't. When she has injury, she literally has panic attack worrying about what her son is going to eat. She has been doing this for last couple years and the mental load and the burden are heavy, beyond comprehension.

On top of that, this mum has another younger daughter who still needs alot of attention and a family to cook and care for. And did I mention she is on her own overseas without a single extended family support?

She sounds amazing, right? Beyond amazing.

Today most of us are celebrating Mothers Day... but today is also the first day for Eosinophilic Awareness Week. So I am posting this in a hope that more people will learn about this condition, and the struggles that their caregivers go through and how they give up a piece of themselves.😔
